Low Harrogate Crown Green Bowling Club (LHCGBC)
In 1885, our club was situated at the rear of the White Hart Hotel on Cold Bath Road, until it moved to Victoria Road in 1921. The land was leased from the Duchy of Lancaster estates but expired in 2001. So with the support of Harrogate Borough Council and a donation from the Duchy, we established our present site on Tewit Well Road in 2002. Today, we enjoy an attractive and challenging crown green, and an enviable clubhouse and grounds. We are simply known as 'Low Harrogate' by our club members and by the rest of the teams in our crown green leagues.
In the Harrogate and District Evening League, we have two teams competing as 'Low Harrogate' in divisions 1 and 2 on Monday evenings, and two teams competing in division 3 on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. In the Tadcaster & District Evening League, we have two teams competing as 'Low Harrogate' in divisions 2 and 3 on Thursday evenings. Also, in the Harrogate & District Veterans League, we have four teams competing in divisions 1, 2 and 3 on Friday mornings / afternoons. On a Saturday afternoon we have one team competing in the Airedale & Wharfedale League. So there is plenty of scope for you to play at your own level, have fun, and improve your game. However, if you prefer social bowling only, that's fine too, and you will have the opportunity to play with Low Harrogate club members of all abilities during organised 'roll-ups' on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Our club is self-sufficient with a committee of six members. In addition, many other members kindly maintain our green, clubhouse and grounds to a very high standard. This has resulted in us winning the Gold certificate awarded by 'Harrogate in Bloom' in 2016, 2017and 2018. Well done Low Harrogate!
